EXCURSIONS

From time to time field excursions are organized to investigate the molluscan fauna in a certain region. In the past year the land and freshwater molluscs occurring in the region of Olloy-sur-Viroin, near Nismes, and in the nature reserve “Wolvenberg” in Antwerp were studied. The excursions to Wolvenberg are part of a larger project aiming at making a complete inventory of the molluscan fauna there.

Apart from the excursions organized by the BVC, small groups of members of our society also take private initiatives for field studies. Several members of the BVC organize almost every year -and this for more than 20 years already- a scientific excursion to the Red Sea. Others concentrate e.g. on the Solomon Islands, while a rather large number of members studies the Western and Southern European molluscan fauna and organize regular field trips. The results of these field studies are usually published in our periodical ‘Gloria Maris’.
