Belgian Society for Conchology, B.V.C.
The Belgian Society for Conchology was founded in September
1961, already more than 40 years ago. The board of the B.V.C. has therefore
considered appropriate to render special honours to two persons who were
among the founding members of the society and who are still today members of
B.V.C. The board has therefore decided to award the title of honorary member
of the Belgian Society for Conchology to Lode Willems (membership number 2)
and to Edward Wils (membership number 27). For this occasion a special
souvenir was made. This was presented to Lode Willems and Edward Wils by
several members of the previous and the present board of the B.V.C. Needless
to say that at this occasion we indulged in reminiscences and admired the
shell collections which Lode and Edward gathered in a period of more than 40
years. Earlier already, i.e. at the scientific symposium that was
held in November 2001 in the Belgian Royal Institute for Natural Sciences
(KBIN-IRSN) in Brussels at the occasion of the 40th anniversary of
the B.V.C., the former presidents André Verhecken and André Delsaerdt were
awarded the title of honorable president of the Belgian Society for
Conchology. Photo 1: Lode Willems and
