Dit tijdschrift heeft een hele evolutie doorgemaakt. Tot in 1986 betrof het een gestencileerde editie op A4-formaat. Het bevatte naast wetenschappelijke artikels ook algemene informatie over schelpen en schelpenfamilies, korte berichten, reisverslagen e.d. Vanaf 1986, de 25^ste jaargang, wordt het tijdschrift gedrukt. Elke jaargang bevat 6 afleveringen met artikels van hoog wetenschappelijk gehalte: - revisies van schelpenfamilies; - beschrijvingen van nieuwe soorten; - inventarisaties van de molluskenfauna in bepaalde gebieden (zoals de Rode Zee, Solomon Eilanden, …). De artikels verschijnen meestal in het Engels maar met een integrale of verkorte Nederlandstalige versie. Gloria Maris vindt ruime weerklank in binnen- en buitenland. Het wordt geruild of toegezonden aan musea, wetenschappelijke instellingen, universiteiten en verenigingen in Europa (België, Duitsland, Frankrijk, Italië, Nederland, Oostenrijk, Polen, Spanje, Zwitserland) en daarbuiten (Australië, Brazilië, Israël, Uruguay, Japan, Nieuw-Zeeland, Rusland, de V.S.A., Zuid-Afrika)
